Constitution
name
The name of the Society is PORTUGUESE CULTURAL CENTRE OF B.C. (the “Society”).
Purposes
The purposes of the Society are:
(a) To relieve conditions attributable to being aged and provide a public amenity by establishing, administering, and maintaining a multi-use recreational facility for seniors in Metro Vancouver, and particularly to provide charitable services, including food, support services, and social activities to relieve social isolation and loneliness among senior adults, including individuals who are of low income or handicapped by reason of age, infirmity or disability;
(b) To advance education by providing scholarships to Portuguese Canadian students attending post-secondary institutions in British Columbia;
(c) To advance the public’s appreciation of the arts by providing high-quality public and free performances of Portuguese folk dancing and band music;
(d) To receive and maintain a fund or funds and to apply all or part of the principal and income therefrom, from time to time, to qualified donees as defined in subsection 149.1(1) of the Income Tax Act (Canada); and
(e) To do all such things as are ancillary and incidental to the attainment of the above charitable purpose.
