REPRESENTING THE PORTUGUESE COMMUNITY IN THE VANCOUVER REGION SINCE 1987.
In 1987, in the city of Vancouver, a group of 16 Portuguese elderly people met once a week in a community center with other elderly people of various nationalities. They wanted to establish a meeting place just for elderly Portuguese people. Led by a social worker, also of Portuguese origin, these elderly people began to meet once a week at the Trout Lake Community Center, where they paid $100 a month for a room equipped with a kitchen.
